Capitol Punishment!

What a trip I had to our nation’s capitol! The Politics and Prose bookstore signing and talk-with the fantastic help of silver-tongued Warren Bernard-was wildly successful! We had a full-house and I think we sold and signed 60-some books! And I had a blast at Big Planet Comics the next day-really enjoyed getting to know Joel and his eager customers. Besides all the great people we met, the best part was the FRONT COVER (and big inside article) on the paper, The Weekend Pass. This is the tabloid that Washington Post passes out for free to zillions of the morning subway commuters. Can you believe that cover and the effect it had on our nation’s leaders?!?

Next stop the comic con in Joe Shuster’s home town of Toronto where I’ll be interviewed by Douglas Wolk!

I Love You, Terry Gross!

Okay, this time it’s for real. NPR/Fresh Air assures me that, unless helicoptors follow O.J.’s Bronco up the highway, I’m on today to discuss “Secret Identity: The Fetish Art of Superman’s Co-Creator Joe Shuster”. Check your local listings!

(Check out the pic by Joe Shuster below: I see it as me meeting Terry Gross!)

Mr. Yoe Goes to Washington!

Next weekend is exciting to me, I’ll be giving a power point presentation at the prestigious Politics and Prose book store in D.C. on Friday. I’ll try and have power and a point. I’ll be joined in the talk by my friend Warren Bernard who was an indispensable help on Secret Identity: The Fetish Art of Superman’s Co-Creator Joe Shuster—his name led the list of people I thanked in the book!

Then there’s the great comics shops in D.C., Big Planet. I’ll be at their flag ship store to sign Secret Identity for comics fans who like it and debate the existence of the book with fans that think I should have buried in my back yard the Shuster erotica I discovered.

The Washington Post is covering the appearances and reviewing the book. Just finished an interview with the reporter who was both quite excited about the book and very insightful about Joe’s art and the events surrounding his porn work. Should be good!

See you and comic fan Barrack and Michelle and the damn dog at the signings!

My Bud, Bud

I’ve been happily ordering fascinating books about comics and illustration and much more from for 25 years from my good friend Bud Plant, of Bud’s Art Books. In fact, Bud’s Art Books is a great place to order Secret Identity: The Fetish Art of Superman’s Co-Creator Joe Shuster. You get real-life nice, knowledgeable people on the phone and terrific customer service. Plus, they’ll send you a free catalog with all kinds of amazing books. Bud’s also one of the most knowledgeable people on comics and illustrations around and has just started a must-read, must-bookmark blog, Bud’s Blog.

Bizzare Magazine Does the Bizzaro

I’m delighted and amused how very different types of media are covering Secret Identity: The Fetish Art of Superman’s Co-Creator Joe Shuster. Since when does USA Today (see below) and the bleeding edge Bizarre Magazine cover the same turf?!? The esteemed comics critic Paul Gravett was drafted to write this one:

Born in the USA Today! Hooray!

The very first page of USA Today called attention to their 2.2 million readers to the Page One of their Life section! “Superman’s artist Bizarro World Exposed”! “Jeepers, Mr. Kent”, indeed! And over the weekend Dee Snider of Twisted Sister interviewed me for Syrius Radio’s Fangoria show. The great Phawker website (scroll down) ran an interview with me, the L.A. Times ran a totally positive review (”marvelous”) in their Arts and Books section Sunday. The L.A. Times ran two illos in their print edition and a r/launch party pic on their website! And my wife yelled at me that it was my turn to clean the cat litter box (so don’t worry, I’m remaining humble). But we’ll see what happens after I’m roasted at the Comic Book Club tomorrow Tue Apr. 14th @ 8:00 pm (Peoples Improv Theatre, 23rd St. b/n 6th & 7th.) And my interview with NPR’s Terry Gross of Fresh Air and my interview with Publishers’ Weekly drops, both probably this week. No more cat litter for ME! Update: uh, my wife just saw this post and said that’s not gonna happen :(

More Pics from the R/Launch Party!

One of the costume winners with her Secret Identity book prize-gosh she was soft and round!

01_superwoman1

This lovely lass who called herself “Supertits” got an honorable mention… (we love you, S!)

01_sylvia

Again, a highlight of the event was the re-enactments of Joe Shuster’s fetish art. The characters in this scene look remarkably like Lois, Superman and Lana Lang, and the actors looked a lot like the art. Fun!

03_whipping

Okay, the model on the left isn’t blonde-are you complaining?!?

06_whipping

More revelers, below. The two on the right are Vickie, who works for Yoe! Studio, and her twin sister Lizzie, but they’re masked so I don’t know who’s who in the photo! Okay, actually I do, Vickie’s got the pink cape on! Dominique (in her tutu) shows off her secret identity: Super Dominique!

04_party

Most talked about dude was “Carpet Guy,” who likes to roll himself up in a carpet, plop down in front of a bar for the whole night, and have folks, especially women in spiked heels, stand on him for the duration. You can see his mouth peeking out on the right-a guy’s got to breathe! (A girl, who shall remain nameless, reported that he felt squishy under her feet!)

Heard there’s more photos from the R/Launch party-goers coming in over the transom tomorrow! Sign up for the RSS feed! Get yourself a copy of Secret Identity, The Fetish Art of Superman’s Co-Creator Joe Shuster and let us know if it feels squishy under your feet. In exchange, we’ll show you pics of what to do with this book other than reading it, but more about THAT tomorrow…

Secret Identity L/Raunch Party Pics!

THE happening event HAPPENED! The club was packed, an amazing amount of books were sold to eager nightlife people, BDSM fetishists and comic books fans-what a crazy mix! And a good time was had by all! Need proof? Check out the pics below. The first portrait photo is by the incredible arteest Adrian Buckmaster of me and co-party planner Lena. The others are by super photographers Nicky Digital and Giovanna Anzaldi. More pics as they come in the next few days so sign up now for the RSS feed!

01_lena_craig3

Lena and me. I’ve been a VERY bad author!

06_valissa1

Besides Lena, the other party planner was my gorgeous daughter Valissa-half of her is gorgeous, anyway. Valissa, as Two-Face, is joined by another Batman villain, Poison Ivy.

02_cover1

One of the highlights of the party was live creations of Superman’s originating artist, Joe Shuster’s fetish art. Here’s one of the cover and you’ll see more as more pics come in.

03_cover1

Whip it! Whip it good!

04_charlie_craig1

I’m leering at the live cover recreation while my chaste editor, Charlie Kochman, is wholesomely checking out our brand-spanking new book, Secret Identity, The Fetish Art of Superman’s Co-Creator Joe Shuster (Abrams) for typos. Charlie was on his best behavior as his beautiful wife-to-be, Rachael, was present. My beautiful, but long-suffering, wife, Clizia, has long ago given up on me.

07_cl_cr1

Me, the weirdest guy at the party, and that’s saying a lot, and the most beautiful girl at the party, Clizia the Great.

05_bj1

Coming! More photos as they come in the next few days. Send yours soon. Meanwhile order Secret Identity, The Fetish Art of Superman’s Co-Creator Joe Shuster here.

Secret Identity Book ‘Raunch” Party!

Below is the poster. Aside from the coolest DJs in NYC, the bleeding edge fashion brand Mishka sponsorship, the mash-up of NYC nightlife people, kink people and comic fans please note that there will be tableaus of actors acting out scenes from Joe Shuster’s fetish art from the book! Spread the word, please, by any and all means. And you know the rote: Be there or…
